KHM Köln

The KHM’s exMedia department invites applications for the position of

professor of spaces as processes (W3 salary scale)

on an open-ended contract from 1.10.2021.

We are looking for an artist who understands spaces as process-like constructions and incorporates an engagement with materiality and systems in their work/thinking. This also includes reflections on ecological and social dimensions and the relationships between spaces and bodies. The critical analysis of relevant technologies and theories is prerequisite. Candidate should have proven themselves in this area through innovative forms of explorative and conceptual artistic praxis. The enrichment of the interdisciplinarity between artistic fields and theoretical discourse both within the KHM as well as beyond the walls of the academy is also expected. The decisive criterium for the position is outstanding artistic ability. Academic qualifications are desirable but not obligatory.

A major focus of the duties is the continuous supervision of student projects. Educational aptitude and experience, as well as a particular empathy and social competence are expected. The cost of language courses will be covered by the KHM if the successful candidate does not have sufficient knowledge of English/German, in order to enable active participation in the self-administration of the academy, especially participation in panels and the development of the curriculum. It is expected that the applicant will live predominantly in the Cologne area.

The KHM is an equal opportunities employer and promotes diversity among its lecturers, students and staff. We advocate equal opportunities, equal treatment and free access without discrimination on the basis of ethnic origin, language, religion or belief, gender, age, sexual identity or disability.

We strive to increase the proportion of female members of staff in research and teaching. Women with the same suitability, competence and academic achievements will therefore be preferentially employed. Applications from severely disabled persons and those with equal status according to § 2 SGB IX are specifically encouraged.

Compelling applications with the relevant documents and an outline of possible classes/seminars are to be sent by e-mail (max. 6 MB) until 30th of October 2020 to
