Mission & Strategy
The VSMU ( Academy of Performing Arts) Bratislava has its home within one of the oldest universities in central Europe, the Academia Istropolitana, founded in 1464. The type of courses that the College runs makes it unique within Slovakia.
The Faculty of Film and Television was officially established in 1990. Our faculty offers Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programmes in feature film directing, documentary film directing, cinematography and photography, animation, screenwriting and dramaturgy, film editing, sound design, production and distribution, audiovisual studies, and visual effects.
The fundamental objective of our school is the training of high quality professionals in artistic production, ready to develop within a socio-economic context. We breed experimentation and research in artistic creation and help our students to adapt to the professional needs of the audiovisual and multimedia arts. During its existence, our faculty has formed a new generation of filmmakers with an original approach towards the challenges of our contemporary world.
Our faculty welcomes all those who still believe that a superficial approach is avoidable and are looking to exploit a more profound creative process. All those who combine personal sensibility, intelligence and spontaneity with knowledge of craft will find their place here. We still believe that cinema is a unique way in which we can recognize and understand the world and that with a little good will, talent and inventiveness we can find original ways in which to say «something more». We believe that an author’s creative goal and his or her personal voice are not a luxury but a necessity, an obligation towards the future audience.
