Major Achievements: "Debkanta Chakrabarti’s entry into the world of cinema started with his film studies in the Film and Television Institute of India, where he specialized in film and video editing and later on in cinema-specialisation in editing.
A film that he worked on ‘Silence’ was appreciated by painter Maqbul Fida Hussein and was specially screened during the 1987 IFFI Indian Panaroma section. His stints with awards started with ‘Jesus 71’ a Bengali feature film of Bangladesh that won the acclaimed Best Editing Award in Bangladesh; then with a Bengali serial called ‘Bela Abela’ which received the Ujjala Anadoloke Best Editor Award; followed by been part of the team, as a Editor, for the film ‘Krantikaal’ that won the prestigious National Award in three categories. Recently he won the ‘Uttam Kumar Mahasammanana’ State Recognization Award from the Ministry of Information & Cultural Affairs, West Bengal for his ongoing contribution in both television and film editing.
Companies he has worked with earlier include Doordarshan, Zee Bangla, ETV Bangla, UK & USA based TV companies, apart from been the Chief Editor for innumerable films, short features, corporate films and documentaries; and has also worked with directors like Sekhar Das, Ashoke Vishwanathan, Shyamal Sengupta, Raja Dasgupta, Moloy Bhattacharya, Anjan Dutt, Raja Sen, Subhadra Chowdhury, Arvind Sinha and Amaresh Chakraborty to name a few. He was also the Chief Associate Editor for the film ‘Ocean Of An Old Man’ directed and edited by Late Rajesh Shera, which won the Breda Film Festival Award.
He directed and edited eight episodes of ‘Sidelights from Italia ’90’ a programme on World Cup Football in 1990, which were uploaded from Rome and Doordarshan, India used to show it prior to and after the matches between teams like Italy, Germany, Argentina, Brazil et al.
